spy kids 4 opening sequence analysis

spy kids- 4 all the time in the world
The opening sequence of spy kids does use the conventions that i expected to see within the clip. For example some of the code and conventions that the clip uses is 1) a car chase scene right at the beginning of the protagonist going after the antagonist.2) we also see props that are used like ropes, for the protagonist to get to the villain at a faster pace and also gadgets for the protagonist to contact her husband. This shows us that the film is based in a more advanced world. The reason why the opening sequence has been used for the particular film is because the film is called ‘SPY KIDS 4- ALL THE TIME IN WORLD’ and by starting of the film with the close up of a black watch it gives us an instinct of what the film is going to be about. The ideas which i like the most are how they start of the sequence with the antagonist entering the scene with the stolen item which belongs to the oss. I like this idea because it gets straight into the film and we know exactly who is who without being told the names or having to go deep into the movie we can already tell that he is the villain. Another idea that I like within the opening sequence is that they used a medium shot of the spy targeting her prey right from the start of the movie. I like this idea as it shows from the start that there is a mission that needs to be completed and you are able to tell the genre of the film. The opening sequence represents people in different ways for example the protagonist is dressed in all black and is wearing High heeled shoes. This shows that she’s at work and also shows that she’s from an upper and important class. Also right at the start we have a close up of her facial expressions to show that she is a serious person and that she seems quite focused. Whereas the antagonist is dressed in a all black suit which shows that he looks like a professional person who has an interest in business but the first shot we see of him is a wide shot of him walking out of a cafe which gives us the impression that he is just an average everyday man with his briefcase and we wouldn’t  suspect anything of him. The audience for this opening sequence would be kids/teens who are into gadgets and technology. I know these because of teens of today’s society are into things that have to do with technology. The opening sequence keeps the audience interest by wanting us to know what is going to happen next after the antagonist has been caught straight from the start and also the spy is pregnant so we want to see what happens after she has her baby and if anything has changed. The title behind the films appears right at the beginning before anything starts. This is to show who produced the film ‘troublemaker studios’ which gives us an idea on what type of genre the film is and is going to be about.

Peter pan
This opening sequence doesn’t use the conventions that i expected to see in this genre of film. For example the opening sequence doesn’t give away the story and starts off with an establishing shot of the city then panning to the window of the bedroom. It starts of calm as it shows with kids in a bedroom telling stories showing us that they will most likely be the main characters of the stories. I think they have used this opening sequence not give away the story and to make the audience think what is going to happen next. So by using a happy family it doesn’t tell us straight away what he film is going to be about. The key ideas which interest me the most are the fact that they there is  wide shot of the kids in the bedroom at night acting out a story which makes us wonder if and think if the story they are telling is actually going to happen with the movie. The opening sequence represents the family in different ways for example right at the start we see a close up of the young girl which shows that they she may be the main character within the film as she is the first person we see. Her costume is of her in her night gown. This shows us that she’s getting ready for bed and is a young child who comes from a working/upper class. We see the two young boys who are also first seen in the bedroom sitting on the floor which shows us that the young girl Wendy has more power over the two. We see that the children are from an upper class family as we notice the bedroom is big and wide and the props of toys around it.  The mum is wearing a black evening dress and has a close up of her hands playing the piano which shows us that she is talented and comes from a well raised place. And also shows us that she is important person from the way she is dressed. The father is dressed in a suit. This shows us that he is an upper class. And the prop that he is wearing his glasses shows us that he is an intelligent man. The company behind this film is universal pictures. The audience for this opening sequence would be kids from the age 4-11. I know this because of how the film is started off by telling a children’s story by a young girl. And also how it is located in a colour bright Childs bedroom. The opening sequence keeps the audience entertained by not giving away the story straight away but by Wendy telling us the story and us thinking that something within the story is actually going to happen within the real life world later on within the movie.

question 5-

Question5: how did you attract/address your audience? The way i attracted my audience is by using the dark and mysterious colours such as black, dark reds and also dull colours to make it more appealing to my target audience. I also decided to use the bandits and a damsel in distress so that my audience would be more entertained by the storyline as it is a typical storyline for my genre which is action thriller. I also made sure that in my film i made sure there was many fighting sequences so that it would engage the audience to watch it even more as they are into that type of stuff. Therefore they would want to know what is going to happen next and who would win the battle between the bandits and the protagonist. Other things that i also done was that i made sure there was violence in my film so that it would be more entertaining for my audience i also made sure that i used a lot of complex technology such as a gun so that it would be more interesting for the film. I also made sure that i used a damsel in distress therefore it would attract young teen boys who are interested in females i also made sure that i used a young male so that many males could relate to the young boy and also may want to live a life his therefore making the film more interesting for the audience. In a action thriller film the codes and conventions consist of many things for example it consist of mysterious and a race against time so it would make it more entertaining for my audience as it would give them the thriller affect of what would be going on in the film. Also they would put themselves in the actor’s shoes so it would give them the affect that they are really in the film. Also the costume that i used relates also because usually people of this genre dress in black or are informal which most of the people are more likely to be. Also another thing is that i used the scene of a school so therefore they could relate as most of the people who are into this genre are still in education therefore can relate to what is going on within the film world.
